Cocoa Ribbon Cookies

Delightful cookies that combine rich chocolate and citrus brightness, perfect for any occasion.

  • 8 tablespoons Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 ounces Dark chocolate (melted)
  • 5 medium Oranges (zest and juice)
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Sour cream
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour (divided)
  • 2 tablespoons Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 4 ounces Dark chocolate (melted for drizzling)
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
  • Flaky salt (for sprinkling)
  • 1/4 medium Orange (cut into segments for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the softened unsalted butter until fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Gradually add granulated sugar and mix until smooth.
  4. Melt the dark chocolate and stir it into the butter and sugar mixture.
  5. Zest and juice 3 medium oranges, adding both to the mixture and stirring well.
  6. Add extra-virgin olive oil and sour cream, mixing until combined.
  7. In another bowl, combine 1 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and kosher salt.
  8. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms.
  9. Divide the dough in half; add 2 tablespoons cocoa powder to one half and mix.
  10. Roll each half into rectangles and layer them with the cocoa layer on top.
  11. Tightly roll the layered dough into a log, wrap it, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  12. Slice the log into 1/4-inch thick cookies.
  13. Place sliced cookies on the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  14. Let cool slightly, then drizzle with melted dark chocolate and sprinkle with sugar and flaky salt.
  15. Garnish with segments of orange and cool completely before serving.

Notes

For a unique touch, try adding a scoop of ice cream between two cookies for a delightful treat.
