Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 slices honey ham
  • 8 slices turkey
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cut French bread into 1-inch cubes and layer half in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Pour half over the bread cubes.
  4. Layer honey ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese over the soaked bread.
  5. Add remaining bread cubes on top and pour the rest of the custard mixture over, ensuring all pieces soak.
  6. Mix brown sugar and melted butter in a bowl and drizzle over the casserole.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

This dish can be prepared the night before for easier morning prep. You can customize with different meats or veggies.
