Savory Traditional Meat Pie

A delicious and comforting meat pie filled with ground beef, onions, and optional vegetables, all enclosed in a flaky crust.

  • 1 recipe Pie Crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 egg (for Egg Wash)
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 medium Carrots, diced (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. If using homemade pie crust, chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. If using store-bought, let it sit at room temperature.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add oil if necessary. Cook the chopped onions for 5 minutes until translucent.
  3. Add the minced garlic and optional diced carrots, cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the ground beef and cook until browned.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir until combined, then add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Season with thyme, salt, and pepper. Let the filling simmer.
  6. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Roll out the pie dough and place it into a pie dish. Pour in the meat mixture.
  8. If using a second piece of dough, cover the filling and seal edges. Cut slits in the top and brush with egg wash.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  10. Cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

This pie can be customized with different fillings and can be made ahead of time.
