Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups of sliced apples (about 6 medium apples)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter (cold)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk or non-dairy milk
  • Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Mix gently so you don’t mash the apples. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the sugars.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Pour in the milk and stir until just combined. The batter will be thick.
  • Spread the apple mixture evenly in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Drop spoonfuls of the batter over the apples, spreading as evenly as possible.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly. If the top browns too quickly, you can cover it with aluminum foil.
  • Let it cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy it warm on its own or topped with vanilla ice cream!
