Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 lb beef or chicken sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Method

Instructions
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove sausage from skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add diced onion and bell pepper. Cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the rice to the skillet and toast for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. This helps the rice absorb flavors better and prevents it from becoming mushy.
  4. Pour in the broth, honey, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Stir everything together until well combined.
  5. Return the cooked sausage to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  6. Remove from heat and let stand covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, toast the rice before cooking to create nutty flavor and prevent mushiness. Use quality Cajun seasoning or make your own blend for controlled heat level.
