Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
- Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels. This helps the BBQ sauce adhere better and promotes crispiness. If using, season lightly with salt and pepper.
- Arrange the drumsticks on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they're not touching each other. This allows for even cooking and better browning.
- Brush each drumstick generously with BBQ sauce, covering all sides. Reserve about ¼ cup of sauce for basting later.
- Bake for 25 minutes, then remove from oven and brush with remaining BBQ sauce. Return to oven and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the skin is crispy and caramelized.
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
Notes
Choose the right BBQ sauce for desired flavor profile - honey BBQ for sweeter results, vinegar-based for more tang. Don't overcrowd the pan for even cooking. Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165°F. Can prepare drumsticks with sauce up to 24 hours in advance for deeper flavor penetration.
